The S&P 500 has return an avg of a little over 10% since 1957. The Nasdaq has returned almost 17% over the last 17 years. If you buy a combo of both indexes it's reasonable to expect 10% returns as a floor. Many portfolios get less bcause they balance out the S&P/Nasdaq with lower returning bonds for diversification sake.
