The job training that probably provides the best bang for your buck is for CDL driver. Most truck driving schools cost >$10k, can be completed in 6-8 weeks, and can result in $40-$50k job offers to start, but quickly lead to $70k - $100k depending on OT and type of hauling/business after about a year's experience. Then you you have specialties like hazmat or frac sand drivers in the oilfield, and owner-operators who might pull in $150k+ (before expenses). Is it an easy or glamorous life? No. But it's job security, and you can move to any U.S. state and find work once properly licensed.

The best paying law jobs usually have a STEM component, so you might have had to get an engineering B.S. or something before the J.D. Or you do the combined MBA/J.D. deal. And the best jobs are typically in HCOL areas. No matter what, you're likely looking at HUGE student loans. Law is hierchial and ultra competitive, too. The better school you graduate from, the better firms you go to. So if you're mid or low-tier, without an in-demand specialty, you're looking at pay that probably makes the profession not worth the price. Unless you're going to go the Saul Goodman route, and be a "criminal lawyer." But that path is, uh, not recommended.

I have two doctors in my family, and lots of nurses. Overall, I'd say medicine has a better runway than law. But it's still a huge commitment with a lot of student loan debt. It's not necessarily the best path to secure good income, but it is a well-traveled and virtually gauranteed one.

Really, what matters most is to have good money management skills.
